The Wilson 2 is a parametric design, allowing easy re-scaling of axes lengths and motion parts; consequently, we offer custom sized frames to fit your particular build and need. In this listing we offer up to 600mm sizes on each axis.The Wilson 2 is an extremely robust design and is capable of being built to such a massive size, but we ask that you make - at the very least - the following design considerations when building your printer and prior to purchasing. The Y-axis (depth/build table) is the cheapest way to increase the overall build volume, and is also the best supported/shows the least sag at long lengths. Additional bearings and mounts, or SC10UU type bearings with pillow blocks for direct mounting (instead of the printed bearing holder/base) are available by request at no extra charge for long Y-length kits. We do not recommend X-axis widths greater than 300-400mm (depending on bed type and print-head weight) without modifying the original Wilson design. Again, sag in the X-axis rods and tendency for wide/heavy build platforms to tip or sag can be problematic. Consider Z-probing the bed to correct for sag, using a remote extruder to eliminate a lot of the weight on the carriage, and/or spacing the Y-axis linear rods out more than originally designed to better support the bed.
A tall Z-axis with small X and Y-axes will make the machine prone to tipping or even walking off your tabletop. If you are printing at high speeds with a heavy print head, consider securing it to the machine solidly to the surface beneath it, and ideally securing or bracing the top of the machine against something capable of reducing vibration as well. We have also received a few inquiries for black anodized 2020 extrusion or substituting 2040 on certain axes to increase rigidity... Along with some folks who want even larger build volume.
